Jesus, Divorce, and Remarriage

Unfortunately, in the day and age we are living in, divorce is a commonly heard word. In fact, most of us have heard the statistic that now one out of every two marriages end in divorce, further proving its prevalence. The sad part is that there is no separation statistically between divorces inside and outside of the church. This calls for a major reality check.

What does Jesus say about divorce in the Bible? Is it okay to be so casual about this epidemic we have on our hands or everyone divorcing because of anything and everything? What are the ensuing consequences for this behavior? While there are unending possibilities for questions surrounding this hot button topic, there are also a lot of answers given in the Bible.

Mark Gungor, a pastor, motivational speaker, author, musician, and CEO of Laugh Your Way America recently shared his thoughts on this subject:

When you say “I do,” it means you did—till death do you part. We must realize that there is a biblical standard that has been ignored and it’s time for the Church to quit treating it so casually and answer the looming question: When is what Jesus said ever true? If we can’t even answer the question, we are in a really bad place.
