A Heroic Husband

Tornadoes ripped through Joplin, Missouri tearing apart homes, communities, and lives. The devastation was heartbreaking, and as stories have poured in from survivors about their experience, it’s tough not to ache with sadness for their losses. One story in particular came to my attention that left me speechless.

Bethany and Don were married six years. They had managed to purchase a house and make it a home. What started out as a normal day ended in despair. The couple found themselves battling the forces of nature as their home was torn to shreds. Holding on to one another and the hope that they would survive, Don used his body to shield and protect his wife from the chaos surrounding them.

It turns out this act of heroism and love would cost him his life. As the newly widowed Bethany sits down to discuss the horrible chain of events that day, there is a message beyond the sorrow: be thankful for your loved ones. There’s no guarantee of tomorrow; today could turn your world upside down in an instant. Take a look at Don and Bethany’s story:

What can you take away from this tragedy?
