A Few Favorites

It’s no secret that communication is a huge, necessary, and vital part of any relationship. Communication develops, grows, and strengthens our connection with people, which is why it is the lifeline of any interpersonal relationship. While we often talk about serious topics, it is important to take time to chat about some fun subjects to keep the laughter alive and well.

Recently my husband and I took a road trip down to San Diego for a weekend getaway. On the way we decided to play a game of sorts. The premise was that one of us would name a topic, and then we would both give our top three choices for it. For example:

  • Topic: Favorite Ice Cream Flavors
  • His Top 3: Birthday Cake Remix from Coldstone Creamery, Black Cherry from Rite Aid), and Ben & Jerry’s Phish Food
  • My Top 3: Birthday Cake Remix, Peanut Butter, and Phish Food

We had a blast taking turns picking topics, hearing each other’s responses, and thinking of our own. Some of our other topics included: favorite meals, best everyday restaurants, best special occasion restaurants, and favorite candy bars. We must have been hungry, but some other ideas outside of gorging are: favorite memory, best trip, and favorite movies.

The time in the car flew by as we rattled off our favorites laughing, reminiscing, and sometimes having to put our heads together to ensure we were selecting the absolute best three answers possible. Not only did it make for a quick, hilarious trip, but it was a great way for us to keep learning about each other. Plus, it brought up some great memories that we had shared and created together along the way.

This is the perfect conversation piece whether you and your spouse are enjoying a date night, you are with some friends hanging out, or you are sitting around with your family and nothing better to do. It’s an amusing way to learn about each other, take a stroll down memory lane, and a great opportunity to create new memories together.
