Q: Is it possible to meet the right person online?

Answer (Gary Chapman): In today’s world a lot of people are meeting people online. At my marriage seminars I often find people say to me, “We met online.” More and more that is happening. Can you meet the right person online? The answer has to be yes because many people have. I do think you’d have to be careful and not all online sites are equal in value; Some are much better than others.

In my opinion, you must not make a decision to get married until you’ve had considerable time with each other in each other’s physical presence. I think it’s very unwise to decide to get married when all you’ve had is online contact because it’s a virtual world and not the real world. You need time with each other before you make the decision to get married. I don’t mean just a weekend or two or three dates. If you think it’s going to lead to marriage, you need to rearrange your geography so that the two of you can spend some time together and get to know each other. Then you can make an intelligent decision about whether to get married or not to get married.
